Inspection Recommendations for Aerial Fabrics

Here at Trix Circus we take your safety very seriously. We consider ourselves as safety equipment manufacturers. As part of our educational series on Aerial Silks, above is a video and below a blog post on how to check your aerial fabrics for wear and tear.

The first thing you should look for in your aerial silk is the compliance tag. Our TRIX CIRCUS compliance tags have the date of manufacture embedded in the serial number. You can see on this tag the serial number is Trix-F- nineteen, twelve, 25: that means that this silk was processed on the 19th of December 2025. This is important as according to our recommendations, your silk should be in use a maximum of 5 years.

The second thing to inspect is the edges. Make sure there are no tears or dog ears along any of the edges of the fabric. Tears and dog ears at the edge of the fabric are dangerous. Directly loading the fabric just below a tear or dog ear can result in a larger rip.

You also want to look for ladders and runs. This defect can be a particular problem for aerial yoga use. Standing poses on a ladder or run can result in a sudden rupture.

The next thing to inspect for are holes and burns. Holes and burns can often be sewn closed depending on their location. Any hole within the top one third of the fabric should be treated as serious. Please contact Trix Circus with any concerns regarding holes.

You should also inspect your fabric for discoloration, joins and blemishes.

Please remember, nothing lasts forever. Every piece of equipment is a consumable.
